ABOUT THE JOB

BPIE Brussels is looking for an experienced communications manager to contribute to the success story of BPIE and to its further development. The position offers perspectives for growth and professional development on operational and strategic levels. Working in a SME-size non-profit organisation entails flexibility, agility and independence. Our new Communications Manager will join the Communications team and report directly to our Head of Communications to support BPIE deliver efficient and impactful communications, while working closely with all BPIE departments (research and operations), media, external service providers and various groups of stakeholders.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Project Management - communications

  • Project management: Lead BPIE project communication activities from a diverse range of income sources (ie: EU LIFE, H2020, philanthropic organisations), including budgeting, monitoring and reporting;
  • Draft, edit and design articles, publications (policy or research oriented), brochures, newsletters and other print or digital communication material dedicated to large-scale dissemination for BPIE projects, including Horizon2020-funded projects;
  • Successfully manage relationships with a number of external providers (graphic designers, proofreaders), and lead editorial process for BPIE publications ensuring high quality standards and attention to detail;
  • Organise memorable events that get people talking with each other, webinars that people actually want to join (and participate in!), press conferences that give journalists the best story they didn’t know they needed to write about, and other seminars and events;
  • Lead and contribute to the preparation of project proposals;
  • Ensure smooth relations and processes with BPIE’s research team and other external project partners.

Strategic communications

  • Actively contribute to evolving BPIE’s organisational communication strategy;
  • Developing and implementing effective communications strategies to achieve project KPIs;
  • Develop compelling narratives that make the case for climate mitigation and adaptation of the built environment towards a range of stakeholders including policymakers, media, industry and advocacy communities;
  • Develop and implement long and short-term focused strategic communications plans, effectively monitoring KPIs;
  • Stay abreast of key policy developments in Europe and globally related to BPIE’s focus of work;
  • Support the management of BPIE’s social media accounts and website;
  • Represent BPIE at selected meetings and workshops.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Higher education or equivalent professional training in relevant discipline, such as Political Science, History, Communications, or Journalism;
  • A minimum of 5 years’ relevant professional experience in a similar role;
  • Knowledge of H2020 project management (communications work packages) is a strong asset;
  • Strong critical thinking and creativity: loves getting into complex new topics and finding ways to effectively transmit them to the right audiences;
  • Impact-driven, motivated to work in a think tank environment and make research results exciting and relevant to a diverse audience;
  • Good experience coordinating communication campaigns and managing multiple campaigns/projects at once;
  • Experience in liaising with stakeholders from the private sector, national governments, and EU institutions;
  • Excellent organisational skills, highly autonomous and pro-active;
  • Highly proficient in spoken and written English;
  • Digital native - strong skills with Microsoft Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel), CMS such as Wordpress, Canva, CRM platforms;
  • Good ability to prioritise and manage several tasks at the same time while respecting deadlines;
  • Ability and willingness to travel occasionally, primarily in Europe;
  • Kind and constructive team player with good interpersonal skills.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS

  • A permanent and full-time contract;
  • The office is located in the Trône/Arts-Loi area in Brussels and is therefore very easily accessible by public transport (metro, tram, train and bus);
  • A competitive and comprehensive salary and compensation package in line with the non-for-profit sector and internal salary grid, including a hospitalization and pension insurances, homeworking allowance, meal vouchers, public transportation reimbursement, team building activities, trainings, fruit baskets and coffee, etc.;
  • Flexibility is provided with up to 3 days of homeworking per week, remote work from abroad, flexible working schedule with core hours based on a 38h per week contract;

The interview process will take place in 2 rounds. The first round of interviews will be planned for short-listed candidates in September/October 2024 and if successful will lead to a second interview. A written test may be organised for the 2nd round.
