ABOUT THE ROLE
WIIS Brussels is led by an energetic team of volunteers who embody its Steering Committee composed of women working in government, international organisations, media, NGOs, think tanks and private sector. We are also supported by collaborators, who join our various teams with a varying degree of commitment as well as an advisory board composed of eminent personalities. Our new President will join these dedicated volunteers, amplifying our reach and impact as an organisation dedicated to advance women’s engagement and gender equality in the security and defence sector, in Brussels – and beyond.
Required qualifications
- An interest in international affairs and politics. An understanding of and passion for international peace, security, and defence, and for the promotion of women in these sectors is essential;
- Experience of managing people in a professional or voluntary capacity;
- Strong strategic thinking and ability to develop creative solutions;
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with diverse stakeholders;
- Fluency in English is required; good spoken French is desirable;
- Ability to engage constructively with diverse viewpoints, foster dialogue, and promote a respectful, inclusive culture;
- A good understanding of WIIS’s history, mission, and values;
- A team player with a strong sense of community;
- Demonstrated commitment to gender equality, diversity, and inclusion;
- Brussels based.
Tasks:
The President works closely with and is supported by the Steering Committee. Among other things, s/he shall be responsible for:
- Ensuring WIIS’ activities contributing to further its mission;
- Conducting outreach and representing WIIS in public events, organised by WIIS Brussels or others;
- Provide strategic guidance;
- Leading, managing, and developing WIIS’s Steering Committee and presiding over its monthly meetings;
- Developing, implementing, monitoring, and assessing the organisation’s programs (including their impact);
- Overseeing partnership opportunities and contributing to occasional fundraising;
- Developing and maintaining beneficial relationships with partners, including funders, supporters, collaborators, allies, vendors, and other stakeholders in the policy space;
- Providing effective external communications about the organisation and its mission, priorities, importance, programs, and activities;
- Championing the organisation and advocating its mission to internal and external stakeholders;
- Leading the organisation’s planning processes;
- Ensuring governance compliance and financial management.
