In the face of a rapidly changing global landscape defined by geopolitical tensions, security challenges and the green and digital transitions, the EU has made long-term competitiveness a central focus of its political agenda. The upcoming Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF) could play a pivotal role in shaping the Union’s economic future by mobilising resources to drive innovation, enhance productivity and support strategic investments.
This policy workshop will bring together policymakers, industry, regional representatives and experts to examine how the next MFF can effectively address the challenge of strengthening EU competitiveness. Discussions will focus on aligning EU funding with strategic priorities, fostering investment in critical sectors and ensuring a balanced approach that promotes both economic growth and social cohesion across all Member States. Two key questions will be addressed: Can the next MFF be designed to better support EU competitiveness and resilience in the face of global uncertainties? What objectives and financial instruments should be prioritised to boost the EU’s competitiveness across diverse sectors and regions?
