This EPC Update and Post-summit Briefing will analyse the results of the European Council meeting on 19 December, when EU leaders are due to discuss numerous issues; from the situation in Ukraine and the EU’s engagement in the world, to the Niinistö report, migration and the Middle East.
Will the EU27 send a united, unequivocal message of support to Ukraine, and be ready to live up to it as Trump 2.0 approaches? EU leaders will discuss enlargement, the need for a “wider and deeper” global network of partners, and the need for strengthening the transatlantic bond and strategic relations with the UK. Can they deliver effective responses on these and other key issues related to EUrope’s regional and global role? To what extent will they endorse and be willing to act on the Niinistö report on strengthening Europe’s civil and military preparedness? Will they step up implementation of the ‘comprehensive approach’ to migration? And how will the European Council position itself in the fast-evolving situation in the Middle East, including the latest developments in Syria?
Participation is open to EPC members only, the media and EU officials.
