Purpose

The role of the Policy and Advocacy Officer is to support in the development of strategic advocacy, policy, and undertake research for the World Vision EU Representation office’s (WV EUREP) Advocacy Unit. S/he will engage in advocacy based on the policy priorities set for EUREP aimed at EU institutions and other key Brussels-based stakeholders. S/he will support the implementation of external engagement objectives by helping managing projects and influencing change in EU policy in areas such as Child Participation, Development and Humanitarian aid Nexus - working with some topics that are part of both the humanitarian aid and development aid sector, such as the global nutrition and hunger crisis.

Major Responsibilities

  • Contributing to the development and implementation of WV EU’s policy & advocacy strategy; gathering and analysing information from EU institutions and Member States, and NGOs; developing analysis and policy positioning on the political and/or funding context/opportunities;
  • Coordinating and aligning World Vision EU’s advocacy with various internal teams;
  • Coordinating advocacy visits to the EU for relevant WVI global/field experts within policy change objectives;
  • Provide support to organise events, foster child participation;
  • Support to WV EU’s external engagement and serving as WV representative towards the EU and relevant Brussels based stakeholders and networks;
  • Support the creation of EU-relevant media products when necessary (social media, press releases, op-eds etc.);
  • Other duties assigned by EUREP Advocacy Director.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • University’s degree – in European politics, Peace and Security, International Relations, Development, Law, or a related public policy field;
  • Good knowledge and understanding of the European Union;
  • Previous experiences demonstrating the interest for the policy issues addressed by World Vision;
  • Communications – demonstrated excellent written and oral communications skills as well as social media skills with a proven ability to craft clear and resonant messages;
  • Good organisational skills, with the ability to work at a high standard even under pressure, good prioritisation skills and ability to meet deadlines;
  • Excellent written and oral fluency in English;
  • Good knowledge of MS Office;
  • To be either a citizen of an EU member state or have a valid residence and work permit for Belgium;
  • Wholehearted support for World Vision’s core values.
