EuroCommerce is a leading European business federation and the principal voice for retail and wholesale in Brussels (www.eurocommerce.eu). We are a team of 20+ policy and advocacy professionals working on a fascinating and diverse set of issues and projects for retailers and wholesalers. In order to strengthen our leadership team, we are currently looking for a Adviser/Head (m/f) Digital and Consumer Policy.

A leadership policy staff position, whose mission is to develop and execute the EuroCommerce strategy in the following areas and issues: e-commerce, platforms, digitalisation in retail and wholesale, data, GDPR, privacy, artificial intelligence, platforms, payments, cybersecurity, consumer rights, such as guarantees, redress.

The Head of Digital & Consumer Policy works closely with the Director-General. He/she is an important external representative for EuroCommerce on those policy issues. He/she is expected to work closely with the other EuroCommerce staff, including the Communication and Advocacy and Political Affairs heads, to ensure effective and influential integrated outreach.

Your responsibilities

  • Monitor policy & legislative developments in the above-mentioned areas and issues;
  • Ensure that EuroCommerce members are properly informed on these new developments and initiatives;
  • Together with the relevant policy committee(s), define priorities in the areas mentioned above for the three-year strategy and the annual work plan;
  • Work with EuroCommerce members, key stakeholders, and EU institutions to understand their perspectives on priority areas;
  • Bring consensus among members and formulate positions with members on priority issues;
  • Together with the advocacy team, develop advocacy plans and lead advocacy activities on the basis of agreed positions;
  • External representation, alone or in partnerships through multi-stakeholder alliances, e.g. in Commission consultative bodies;
  • Write contents for all internal and external communications (memos, briefing, InBrief, press releases) in the relevant policy areas, to be finetuned with Advocacy and Comms team;
  • Together with the Advocacy and Comms team, design and organise events organised by EuroCommerce; ensure EuroCommerce representation in external events;
  • Manage the technical and policy committee in this area, and support the chair of this committee;
  • Report to the Director-General and the EuroCommerce Board of Directors;
  • Lead and manage the staff team that cover the areas and issues described above;
  • In cooperation with Advocacy and Comms team, continuously innovate in serving members, i.e. refine or create new programmes, services, and products;
  • Advise the Director-General with respect to the above-mentioned policy areas;
  • Serve as a member of the Policy Leadership Team, contributing to the alignment of policy, communication, and outreach of the association, and the development of its policy strategy.

Your profile

  • 8 years of experience in a relevant role, preferably in a digital or retail company or association; practical experience in online retail and payments is a plus;
  • A passion, deep understanding, and clear vision on the future of retail, technology, big data, and the digital economy, and the contribution of retail to a better world;
  • A keen interest in EU political affairs; understanding of EU processes is a plus;
  • A natural inclination for communication, marketing, and lobbying; excellent speaking, writing and editing skills in English, other languages are an additional asset;
  • Demonstrable organisational skills appropriate for a highly multi-tasked environment; high energy, high output rate, capability to deliver results on time, adapt swiftly to changing priorities under tight deadlines; autonomous, dynamic, innovative, strategic;
  • Capacity to work in a multinational and multi-client environment; strong interpersonal communication and teamwork skills.
