JOB SUMMARY

The Communication Assistant supports the Media Relations and External Communication Officer in advancing the Organisation’s communication strategy, enhancing its brand and engaging target audiences. This role combines content creation, social media management, and administrative support, with occasional travel required (minimum twice annually for the Assembly's sessions). Candidates must demonstrate initiative, attention to detail and adaptability in a dynamic and multicultural environment.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

Working under the supervision of the Media Relations and External Communication Officer, the Communication Assistant’s duties include but are not limited to:

1. Content Creation and Social Media Management:

  • Contribute to the Organisation's social media and digital communication efforts, supporting an impactful online presence;
  • Create and curate high-quality, engaging content (text, images, videos, graphics) for the website, social media, newsletters and other channels;
  • Collaborate on content calendars and contribute ideas for campaigns and initiatives;
  • Coordinate communication activities and ensure alignment with the Organisation's messaging and objectives;
  • Monitor social media, engage followers and promptly handle inquiries;
  • Research industry trends and monitor key social media accounts for relevant insights;
  • Identify emerging communication technologies to enhance the Assembly’s strategies;
  • Track, analyse and report social media metrics to optimise engagement and reach.

2. Media Relations:

  • Monitor media coverage and compile regular reports on mentions and coverage;
  • Maintain and update the press and media contact database.

3. Administrative Support:

  • Assist in organising and maintaining digital assets, including photos, videos, and graphics;
  • Help with scheduling meetings, preparing reports, and managing communication-related tasks;
  • Maintain an organised archive of communication materials and documents;
  • Support in maintaining and promoting the Organisation's brand identity;
  • Assist in developing branding materials, including digital publications, presentations, and graphics;
  • Undertake additional duties as needed.

JOB PROFILE

Qualifications and experience:

  • Master’s degree in communications, media studies, public relations, journalism, or a related field;
  • Minimum one year of experience working in a corporate or institutional environment in a relevant role, such as a communication or marketing assistant, or social media coordinator;
  • Professional work experience in government, international organisations or policy research institutions is preferred;
  • Good understanding of defence and security is desirable;
  • Good time management skills and flexibility;
  • Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with people of different national and cultural backgrounds.

Core Competencies:

  • Fluency in English and French, the Assembly’s official languages;
  • Proficiency with social media management tools, analytics platforms and graphic design/video editing tools;
  • Strong command of MS Office and familiarity with content management systems;
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills;
  • Strong organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise in a fast-paced environment;
  • High attention to detail and commitment to accuracy;
  • Creative and innovative thinker, comfortable suggesting new approaches;
  • Collaborative with strong interpersonal skills, able to engage with cross-functional teams;
  • Adaptability and flexibility to respond to changing demands.

CONDITIONS

The Assembly offers a full-time temporary position of one year (renewable once), in its International Secretariat, which includes a team of 29 professionals from NATO member countries and is located in central Brussels.   • Temporary employment contract for the duration of one year, with a possibility to renew this contract once by a year, with the agreement of both parties;
  • The contract will commence in January;
  • Monthly net salary of EUR 2,200;

  • Possibility of working from home (in Belgium) two days per week;
  • Monthly internet allowance for working from home;
  • Substantial reimbursement of commuting expenses.
