We are looking for a senior economist and/or financial market analyst to monitor global macroeconomic developments and external risks to the euro area, including both economic and financial spillovers. The selected person will be a member of the Market Analysis team within the Economic and Market Analysis division of the Chief Economist Department and will report to the Head of Division.

The Economic and Market Analysis division monitors and analyses aggregate and cross-country euro area and global macroeconomic and financial market trends and risks. The division also conducts and coordinates modelling and policy-relevant research.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Monitor and analyse global economic and financial markets, with a particular focus on developments in the United States and China, including the risk of spillovers to euro area sovereign debt markets;
  • Prepare presentations, briefings, speeches, and speaking points for management;
  • Provide regular input to the internal Investment Management Committee on the global macroeconomic outlook;
  • Develop interest-rate scenarios to support debt sustainability analysis and other in-house processes;
  • Produce analytical reports that help the organisation fulfil its functions, including but not limited to:
    • identifying key determinants of ongoing global trends and market sentiment;
    • developing frameworks that give early warning signs of global risks with implications to sovereign debt markets; and
    • picking up market signals that may contain information about the economic outlook.

KEY BACKGROUND & EXPERIENCE

  • Master’s degree or PhD, preferably in macroeconomics, international economics, or finance;
  • At least five years of experience in macroeconomic and/or financial market analysis, gained preferably at an international financial institution, central bank, investment bank or asset manager;
  • A range of relevant work experience from at least two years for officer level and at least eight years for senior officer level are required. For PhD holders, up to two years of relevant research work performed in the context of PhD studies can be considered as relevant work experience;
  • Solid knowledge of econometric techniques an asset;
  • CFA or other relevant professional qualifications an asset;
  • Excellent drafting skills and track record of regular publications for professional audience;
  • Excellent oral and written English skills.

PRACTICAL INFORMATION

  • Deadline for application: 14 November 2024;

  • Contract duration: four years, renewable;
  • Place of employment: Luxembourg;
  • Current working arrangements: possibility to work remotely, usually up to two days a week, from Luxembourg and the border region (or from further away under certain conditions).
