About the team/job

We're excited to launch a new opportunity for a Manager to join the Project Management Office at ELIXIR in Hinxton, Cambridgeshire.

As our Project Management Office Manager, you will help us drive the professional project management practices that underpin the implementation of ELIXIR's scientific programme, enabling the effective management of our internal and external portfolio of projects.

This is an ideal role for someone who is forward thinking and able to proactively identify opportunities and ways to overcome challenges that could prevent ELIXIR projects from delivering their expected strategic value. By doing this you'll help us remove barriers regardless if they are technical, organisational or legal, in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.

Your role

The main duties and responsibilities are as follows

  • Be responsible for the professional project management of the ELIXIR's portfolio of projects (comprising internal Commissioned Services and external grant-funded projects) to ensure that there is at all times an accessible overview of the portfolio with risks and opportunities clearly articulated and project responsibilities for Hub staff are transparent;
  • Proactively and collaboratively work with the Head of Operations to ensure that project budgets are correctly captured, forecasted and acted on within ELIXIR Hub budget process;
  • Work proactively and collaboratively with Head of Project management, Head of External relations and the ELIXIR Hub MT in the long-term planning of the ELIXIR project portfolio including maintaining an overview of proposal development responsibilities;
  • Work closely with the ELIXIR Head of Operations team to represent overall project portfolio in the implementation and operationalisation of ELIXIR's technical and scientific programme (e.g. Annual Work Plan, related project plans, payment processes and progress updates);
  • Supervise the project and task assignments of ELIXIR Project Management Office (PMO) members and work with the team to foster harmonised project management practices that take the needs of the ELIXIR Nodes into account and managing expectations and communicating effectively with internal and external stakeholders;
  • Drive the continuous improvement of project management practice across the ELIXIR Hub, constructively engaging with the other teams to align our overall practice;
  • As appropriate, take responsibility or contribute to one or more European Commission funded projects within the ELIXIR Hub's portfolio;
  • Collaborate closely with colleagues in the ELIXIR Hub team to ensure successful delivery of project commitments;
  • Be fully aware of ELIXIR's long-term strategy, particularly how it affects the projects that are being managed;
  • Apply ELIXIR's project management methodology and contribute to the continuous improvement of ELIXIR's project management capabilities.

You have

  • University degree, preferably in life sciences, computer science, or equivalent experience;
  • Experience in Project Management Team coordination (PI/Project Sponsor, Participants, Project Coordinators, Project Administrator, Communication, Event Organisation);
  • Experience in Project Management in an industrial, academic or research setting;
  • Ability to organise and independently manage delivery within a multidisciplinary, collaborative, team environment;
  • Experience in handling deadlines and a heavy workload by actively managing priorities;
  • Experience working in a team to deliver exceptional results;
  • Understanding of project management processes;
  • Exceptional accuracy and attention to detail;
  • Ability to evolve and adapt to the continuous improvements in processes, methodologies and technologies being used by the ELIXIR Hub.

You might also have

  • Active certification in Project Management e.g. PMP, PM2;
  • Leadership and coordination of all phases of project management processes.
