The European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) is one of the highest ranked scientific research organizations in the world. The Headquarters Laboratory is located in Heidelberg (Germany) and the outstations are in Grenoble (France), Hamburg (Germany), Hinxton (UK) and Monterotondo (Italy).
As an international organisation, EMBL is engaged in relations with numerous institutions in its member states and beyond. EMBL's International Relations supports and advises the Director General in all matters linked to international relations and is responsible for shaping and implementing the external relations strategy for the organisation. The International Relations officer reports directly to the Joint Heads of Government and EU Relations and is responsible for:
- Support the implementation of Horizon 2020 Widening measures that have been awarded to EMBL, in particular the Teaming project on the establishment of a center of excellence in Hungary;
- Support EMBL’s International Relations Unit with particular emphasis on communication and coordination of activities within EMBL growing network of partnerships;
- Related to the above, assemble briefing materials, organise meetings and visits, prepare presentations, reports and strategy documents as necessary;
- Assist with the coordination of activities in EMBL’s member states, associate member states and potential new partner countries.
Qualifications and Experience
The candidate should hold an advanced university degree in international relations, political or social sciences and at least 2-3 years of work experience. Knowledge of contemporary science policy issues and EU framework program for research would be highly desirable. The position requires outstanding organisational skills, good attention to detail, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, ability to work both independently and as part of team, and commitment to meet deadlines. Excellent command of written and spoken English is essential. Knowledge of at least two additional European languages is advantageous.
