SatCen is offering one traineeship position for university graduates that are finishing or have recently obtained a Master’s degree in the legal field.

The trainee will be given the opportunity to gain first-hand experience of working for an EU Agency, bringing new perspectives, innovative ideas, and latest research experiences into the SatCen’s daily operations and improve the trainee’s legal skills while working in a multicultural environment.

In particular, the trainee’s daily activities will include some or all of the following, depending on the profile:

  • Closely collaborating with staff in the Legal Service;
  • Conducting a variety of legal assignments under the direction of SatCen legal staff;
  • Conducting research on assigned issues, using existing law files and alternative sources (e.g., internet, intranet and/or other databases), analysing information, and summarizing findings;
  • Conducting comparative legal analyses on a range of issues in a given area, identifying legal and policy issues, researching relevant precedents, and proposing appropriate solutions; and,
  • Assisting in the handling of contracts, regulatory compliance, legal tasks, and legal support.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

Applications will be assessed based on the information provided by the candidates in the Application Form, and their performance against the following criteria:

Essential:

  • A recent Master’s Degree in Law or being in the last year of the university of a Master’s degree in Law.

Desirable:

  • Experience in law firms and/or in-house legal departments, preferably in Public Law.

SKILLS AND COMPETENCES

Essential:

  • Excellent research and analysis skills;
  • A sound knowledge of EU law;
  • A good knowledge of MS Office;
  • A good command of English and knowledge of another EU language;
  • A high level of discretion and sense of confidentiality;
  • Flexibility to cover a wide range of tasks;
  • Outstanding communication skills, both verbal and written, particularly for drafting and summarising texts.

All essential and desirable criteria are evaluated so as to identify the most suitable candidates.

ELEGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

To be considered eligible, candidates must satisfy all of the following eligibility criteria by the closing date for submitting applications:

  • A recent university diploma or being in the last year of the university degree;
  • Be a national of one of the Member States of the Union and enjoy their full rights as citizen;
  • Produce evidence of a thorough knowledge of English (at least level B2), the working language of SatCen, and of a satisfactory knowledge of another official language of the EU to the extent necessary for the performance of their duties.

In addition, candidates must:

  • Hold a security clearance at least at the level of EU SECRET, or equivalent. In case the successful candidate is not in possession of such a clearance at the time of submitting an application, the SatCen will request it. As the SatCen is situated in an air force base outside of Madrid, with limited access by public transport to the entrance of the base and no public transport on the base itself, a driving licence is highly desirable. It is the duty of the trainee to get to the office by its own means.
