Background

ePURE is the association representing the European renewable ethanol industry. Our 19 member companies throughout 16 Member States account for around 85% of the renewable ethanol production in Europe. Their ethanol is used in the fuel market, but also in the beverage and industrial markets.

ePURE is recruiting a Director of Government Affairs, with a focus on trade issues. The position requires you to acquire a solid understanding about the ethanol industry and market dynamics, both at European and global level. Your primary focus will be to defend the interests of European ethanol producers in EU trade, customs and economic policies. You will also be expected to support the Secretary General and supervise the Government Affairs Manager in matters related to renewable energy and climate policies.

Mission

Reporting to the Secretary General, you will be required to:

  • Identify emerging issues and keep members informed about the development of current legislative proposals and policies relevant to ePURE, with a focus on trade and economic affairs;
  • Draft position papers, briefings, working documents, presentations and other relevant documents;
  • Help defining and implement the advocacy strategies for ePURE;
  • Facilitate consensus decision making among members, while also ensuring that the association has strong defendable positions;
  • Liaise with the members and coordinate advocacy activities, including at national level;
  • Represent ePURE in meetings in the European institutions and other stakeholders;
  • Supervise and guide the work of the Government Affairs manager in charge of renewable energy and climate issues;
  • Organise and run dedicated Working Groups including liaising with the Chair, prepare supporting material, draft minutes;
  • Participate in ePURE Board meetings, General Assembly and in other ePURE events.

Required qualifications and skills

  • Relevant university degree;
  • At least 7 years of relevant experience;
  • Excellent English (written and spoken). Additional EU language desired;
  • Ability to convey technical issues in simple terms, confidence in public speaking;
  • Project management skills, incl. ability to manage meetings, budgets and respect deadlines;
  • Right to live and work in Belgium.
