About the team/job

We are seeking a career development specialist to work within the EMBL-EBI Human Resources team on a 3-year project to design and implement career development solutions, enhancing the Institute's ability to attract, engage, develop and retain talented people.

As a scientific organisation we offer world-class professional growth and development opportunities for researchers - the aim of this project will be to raise the career development offering for staff across the Institute to the same high standard. Our staff include bioinformaticians, software developers, database curators, and professionals in support functions such as communications, finance and administration.

If you are an experienced HR professional with a passion for people development this role offers an exciting, high-impact opportunity in a renowned scientific organisation.

Your role

You will be responsible for the career development project including scoping, development and delivery.

Specifically, the project will include:

  • The design and implementation of career development offerings for technical, professional and administrative staff;
  • Career pathways and competency-based development frameworks;
  • The integration of these frameworks with performance management and the training curriculum;
  • Input to the future development of leadership training.

Throughout the project you will engage widely across the organisation, and draw on your professional experience and network to explore ideas, shape and implement workable solutions.

The breadth of this role requires a seasoned HR professional with experience of change projects and excellent communication skills - a self-starting innovator with the ability to influence and negotiate to effect change in a collaborative manner.

Close interaction with HR colleagues at EMBL headquarters in Heidelberg will be critical to the project's success and will require some travel within Europe.

You have

  • University degree and training in human resources management or similar;;
  • Significant experience in people development and human resources;
  • Experience in the design and implementation of competency-based career development frameworks;
  • Expertise in change and stakeholder management;
  • Excellent communication, influencing and negotiation skills;
  • Advanced presentation and report-writing skills.

You might also have

  • Experience working in science, technology or higher education;
  • Project leadership experience;
  • Proven ability to design, coordinate and analyse effective surveys;
  • Experience of working in matrix organisations and/or international experience.
