EuroMed Rights is looking to recruit an experienced, dynamic professional as Communication Team Coordinator for its Brussels-based office.

S/he plays an integral role in the development and implementation of EuroMed Rights’ overall strategy on internal/external communication, social media and press relations. S/he coordinates the communication team in Brussels by ensuring proper work distribution, and advises the Advocacy Director and the management team on communication issues. This post requires an English native level since the Communication Team Coordinator drafts press releases and statements in English, and proofread publications in that language.

Essential position functions:

  • Strategising and implementation: develop a communication strategy; promote printed and branded materials; draft press releases and statements; proofread publications/reports; monitor and evaluate communication activities; organise public events, e.g. press conferences, public screenings/stunts; train staff in their efforts to integrate communication into their advocacy activities;
  • Monitoring and outreach: identify communication opportunities; develop personal contacts with the press based in Brussels and Member State capitals; reach out to likeminded organisations to coordinate actions;
  • Organisational matters and staff supervision: coordinate the communication team in Brussels by ensuring proper work distribution; develop, train and evaluate staff; advise the Advocacy Director and the management team on communication issues; manage the communication budget: approve, monitor and control expenses;
  • Gender mainstreaming policy: apply EuroMed Rights gender mainstreaming policy to the above activities.

Profile, Skills and Background:

  • A University degree in journalism, communications or similar relevant education background;
  • Minimum 5 years of proven experience in communications as an information officer, journalist and/or media expert;
  • English native level speaker with excellent writing and oral skills, good command of French is required;
  • Excellent command of communication tools with keen attention to details, e.g. website management, publication design, video making and editing, database management. A good knowledge of the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) will be an asset;
  • Good knowledge of the NGO sector, preferably at international level, and good understanding of political and human rights issues in the Euro-Mediterranean region;
  • Experience of supervising/coordinating staff, and ability to work effectively in a multicultural environment;
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to establish and maintain contacts with the media, NGOs and EU official representatives.
