Cefic, the European Chemical Industry Council, is both the forum and voice of the European chemical industry. It aims to maintain and develop a prosperous chemical industry in Europe by promoting the best possible economic, social and environmental conditions to bring benefits to society.

The chemical industry is a € 500+ billion industry, providing over 1 million direct jobs and nearly 2.5 million indirect jobs in Europe. The chemical industry is the “Industry of Things”. The industry's products are essential to 95% of everything manufactured: hygiene, health, mobility, construction, computers and electronics all rely on the chemical industry. The sector is also critical to meeting future needs, such as developing energy sources or managing scarce resources. The chemical industry is essential for achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

Cefic is located in Brussels to represent the industry vis-à-vis EU institutions and involve member federations and companies in European advocacy. We employ more than 150 people.

For its Specialty Chemicals team and one of its major Sector Groups, Cefic is looking for a (m/f) Sector Group Manager - European Biocidal Product Forum (EBPF).

Mission of the role:

In charge of several working groups and projects of the EBPF Sector Group (https://specialty-chemicals.eu/ebpf/), the right candidate will act as a project manager, represent EBPF in various EU bodies and/or ECHA committees and deliver the needed results in time.

Are you inspired by these responsibilities?

You will:

  • Give the needed support to the several EBPF working groups with representatives of industry (chemical companies, members of Cefic);
  • Coordinate and manage projects in response to key issues in the area of biocidal products;
  • Develop position papers, based on industry comments, for presentation at Authority discussions;
  • Report back to Industry members on key topics including early warning on upcoming issues;
  • Have regular contacts with the EU and Member State authorities.

Can you make the difference?

The successful candidate will be a highly motivated professional who demonstrates the following experience and competencies:

  • Academic background: preferably MA or MSc in Science;
  • A first experience working at European/international level on regulatory and scientific aspects, preferably in the chemical industry and/or with associations similar to Cefic is a plus;
  • Good knowledge of the Biocidal Products Regulation is highly desired. Knowledge of REACH/CLP is an asset;
  • Analytical thinker;
  • Excellent project management skills;
  • Bilingual or full professional proficiency in English and at least one other European language; additional languages are a definite asset;
  • Motivation to travel regularly (about 35 %).

Required personal qualities:

  • Strong communication skills: ability to speak clearly and concisely in front of a group; ability to deliver well-organised, enthusiastic and convincing presentations and ability to adapt style and language to audience;
  • Ability to write clear and concise emails translating communication from authorities into actions for the members;
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to negotiate and solve conflicts;
  • Curious mind and eagerness to learn and grow within the Specialty Chemicals cluster;
  • Ability to work independently and in team, with dedication and loyalty;
  • Keen to have fun at work despite tight timelines and changing targets;
  • Able to identify, recognise and flag problems in a timely manner and focus on solutions;
  • Motivated to represent the voice of industry and influence policy and guidance.
