Position summary

A passionate communication professional able to lead the development and implementation of the organization’s communications strategy in close collaboration with the IOFI Communications Board and the IOFI Executive Director. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing all internal and external communications liaising with the scientific & regulatory staff in Brussels/Washington DC and the IOFI Steering Committee. The position is laid out as an (full-time) entry position under Belgian law. The communications manager will report directly to the Executive Director. The position requires frequent traveling.

Founded in 1969, the International Organization of the Flavor Industry (IOFI) is the global association representing the industry that creates, produces and sells flavorings worldwide. With 16 regional and national associations and 10 major global companies as members, a management staff of scientific and regulatory experts located in Brussels and Washington D.C. and a network of top-notch industry volunteers, IOFI interacts with stakeholders around the world.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the development and production of web and print-based communication materials;
  • Oversee and produce the content for the IOFI website, IOFI member network and social media;
  • Work with scientific & regulatory staff and different IOFI committees/working groups to develop communication materials, technical publications and training/education materials;
  • Serve as secretariat liaison to the IOFI Communications Board;
  • Support creation of presentations for audiences ranging from IOFI Board to market regulators;
  • Support annual meetings (i.e. guest speakers, presentations) and organize Communications Board meetings.

Qualifications

  • An excellent knowledge of English (spoken and written); any other language is an advantage;
  • Degree in marketing or communications;
  • A minimum of 3 years relevant work experience;
  • First-hand experience of communication for non-for-profit organizations (incl. trade associations) or governmental organizations;
  • Ability to manage and negotiate with external service providers;
  • Ability to develop and foster relations with member associations, partner organizations, media representatives and other external bodies;
  • Proficiency in website content management systems;
  • Ability to brand and build state-of-the-art/appealing communication templates (PowerPoint etc.);
  • Excellent social, diplomatic skills and hands on-mentality;
  • Knowledge/experience in food and/or flavor industry would be an additional asset.
