EFIS Centre is actively looking for a Project Manager (PM) interested to be involved in running long-term Horizon 2020 funded projects. We are seeking highly motivated individuals who are passionate about research and innovation and seeking to work and make a difference at the interface of policy research and the operational delivery of public policies. The successful candidate is expected to actively contribute to shaping the expanding Project Management team at EFIS Centre.

Responsibilities

The PM will be responsible for the daily implementation and management of one or more H2020 funded projects, under the direct supervision and guidance from the coordination team (Project Coordinator and the EFIS Centre operations & finance manager).

She/He will play a pivotal liaison role with all internal and external stakeholders, spanning all Work Packages (WPs) and tasks of the project implementation. The tasks include but are not limited to:

  • Monitoring the overall progress regarding milestones and deliverables;
  • Acting as the main point of contact, including:
    • Fluid and timely communication with project partners;
    • Prompt liaison with the coordination team and the assigned European Commission Project Officer to pro-actively anticipate emerging issues;
    • Assisting the WP and Task Leaders in the delivery of their tasks.
  • Supervising the preparation of deliverables (direct liaison with WP Leaders and EFIS support teams);
  • Identification and proposed mitigation of all risks, including any initially unanticipated risks;
  • Coordinating the preparation of project interim and final reports as outlined in the Grant Agreements;
  • Generating and submitting amendments to the Grant Agreements and Consortium Agreements, and drafting other agreements as required;
  • Liaising with the European Commission at the negotiation, implementation and reporting stages.

Skills & Qualifications

  • 5-10 years of experience in policy research or consultancy and/or research funding agencies;
  • Sound scientific background with a relevant Masters degree;
  • Strong organisational, project management and problem-solving skills;
  • Strong interpersonal skills: management, collaboration, leadership, facilitation, negotiation;
  • Diplomatic and persuasive with strong communication and engagement skills;
  • Excellent planning and organisational skills;
  • Fluent English, both written and spoken, and ideally fluency in at least one other European language;
  • The ability to write concisely and persuasively;
  • Effective presentation and communication skills using a variety of channels, including an ability to speak confidently in public;
  • Willingness and ability to travel as required.

Experience/knowledge required

  • Proven experience in H2020 procedures and project planning and delivery;
  • Knowledge of the management of open calls for grant funding at either national or EU level;
  • Past projects in the fields of research infrastructures (ESFRI, etc.) and/or digital (e-)infrastructures and data services in the context of the European Open Science Cloud and/or next generation Internet technologies will be viewed an asset;
  • International experience or international exposure to best practices in project management. A third level or executive management diploma in project management will be viewed as an asset.

The European Future Innovation Systems (EFIS) Centre (www.efiscentre.eu) is a not for profit (ASBL under Belgian law) policy research centre established in December 2014.

Our mission is to promote an enhanced understanding of the performance and future development perspectives of the European Research Area (ERA) and European, national and regional, innovation systems, particularly in relation to societal challenges (climate change, energy security, resource efficiency, ageing population, etc. The centre’s activities include:

  • Undertaking studies and quantitative and qualitative analysis concerning the ERA, regional, national sectoral and thematic innovation systems;
  • The development and management of on-line policy monitoring, data benchmarking and collaborative platforms supporting the inter-connection of research and innovation organisations at regional, national and European levels;
  • Supporting doctoral or post-doctoral research in the above-mentioned fields.

EFIS is currently involved in four (of which three as coordinator) on-going Horizon 2020 funded projects with a focus on developing methods and tools for designing, managing and evaluating research and innovation strategies, research (e-)infrastructures, and the next generation internet. . Our activities include the development of online tools and platforms to support smart specialisation strategies, open science policies and benchmarking research and innovation performance. We are also a partner in the current (2018-20) phase of the European Innovation Scoreboard initiative.
